The most common form of passives, the passive voice is used to focus on the action or the person/thing receiving the action, not the one doing it.

The Passive Voice Structure

In the passive voice, the subject becomes the focus because it is affected by the action.

The bridge was built in 2000. (We emphasize the action)

My wallet was stolen. (We don’t know who stole it.)
