Third Conditional: Exercises & Examples

Have you ever wanted to speak about regrets in English but didn’t know how? Well, Third Conditional is the answer, it talks about the past. We use it for situations that did not happen, and we imagine what the result would have been if things had been different.

Infographic explaining the third conditional in English. It shows that the third conditional is used to talk about imaginary past outcomes, regrets, criticism, relief, and reflection on past decisions. The structure is presented as: if + past perfect, then would have, could have, or might have + past participle. Example sentences include: “If I had known about the meeting, I would have arrived earlier” (certainty), “He could have finished the project earlier if he had asked for help” (possibility), and “If I had followed the instructions, I might have passed the exam” (probability).
